Do you need a Licence to drive in Rarotonga?

Yes. All rental companies on the island require a Cook Islands license for Insurance policy purposes. Go to the Police station in Avarua (open Mon – Fri 9am – 3pm, Sat 9am - noon) with your passport and current international license cost is $20. You may be required to sit a practical/ theory test which is an additional cost of NZ$10. _If you hire a scooter do not use “under the seat storage” as a security of valuables.

Yes and there is a charge depending on the medical assistance you need. It is always advisable to invest in a little basic medical kit of your own.

Restaurant, Cafe and night club?

Tiare Village is close to town and most eateries cater for all budgets. Night Clubs are also centred in the main town. Information can be sought from the office.

Sunday Arrivals

The main town stores are all closed. There is a small store that sells the basics, go to the bottom of the drive about 150 metres to the right, turn left at the intersection. Hours Sunday 7am – 10am, reopens from 5.30pm – 9pm. Normal hours are from 7am – 9pm Mon – Sat. I would suggest you purchase grocery items from the Supermarket and market on normal week hours. Bottled water and soda drinks can be purchased from the office.

Please feel free to use our office safe to store your passports and important documents. One should always be vigilant, as one would expect to be in one’s own home
